Andersen Racing's Goring Qualifies Sixth; Baker and Saville 12th and 13th

ELKHART LAKE, Wis., Aug. 10 - Jonathan Goring qualified sixth on Friday at Road America for Saturday's Star Mazda race presented by Goodyear. His two Andersen Racing teammates who are also entered in this race, Jonny Baker and Phil Saville, qualified 12th and 13th, respectively, in a tight 27-car field.

Goring's time was just 0.399 off the pole. The top 11 drivers were within a second of the pole. Baker was just 1.043 off the fastest time, and Saville's fastest lap took just 0.404 longer than Baker's fastest lap.

The fastest lap for Goring, of Norfolk, Conn., was his sixth circuit of the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course, when he was timed in 2:07.069. That works out to an average speed of 114.684 for Goring, who drives the No. 14 advertising the Skip Barber Racing School, Alfas Unlimited and NPA Graphics.

Baker's fastest lap in the Andersen Racing No. 6 was his second one when he did a 2:07.713 (114.106 mph). He hails from Farnham Common, Buckinghamshire, England.

Saville, of Oak Brook, Ill., drives the No. 22 sponsored by New York Jewelers of Chicago; NVG Residential; Mac Marketing & Advertising Corp. and Chicago Indoor Racing. His fastest lap in qualifying was his sixth lap, done in 2:08.117 (113.746 mph).

Jonathan Goring: "I feel the session was good. I ran a 7 flat. I felt I could push myself more mentally, but I made a mistake on the last lap in Turn 8. I dropped two wheels off the track, so I aborted that lap. The others gained on that lap, and it pushed me back to sixth. But I feel I have a good car and I can get it done in the race."

Jonny Baker: "We were sixth for awhile and getting quicker and quicker. Then with three laps to go, I downshifted in Canada Corner and I heard a hissing noise, so I pulled into the pits. It might be the flywheel. It's a shame, because that compromised that session. I'm sure the Andersen Racing crew will get it fixed and we'll have a good car for the race."

Phil Saville: "That wasn't my best qualifying session, but tomorrow is another day, and we'll be ready."
