Ryan Justice leads Thursday practice at Portland International Raceway

July 20, 2006. Portland, Oregon. Coming home was sweet for Portland native Ryan Justice as he set the fastest time of the day in thursday's unofficial practice for Round Seven of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Portland International Raceway. Driving the #38 Northwest Autosports J&M Body Shops Mazda, Justice lapped the 1.946-mile circuit in a time of 1:09.431 (101.833 MPH) to lead the field of 32 drivers entered in this weekend's event.

With tempertures climbing into the high nineties for the second of two practice sessions today most drivers set their fastest times in the relatively cooler morning session. Setting the second fastest time of the day was Winston-Salem, North Carolina resident Daniel Herrington, who clocked a time of 1:09.501 (101.731 MPH) in his #3 AIM Autosport Bluetooth SIG Mazda. Kevin Lacroix, who finished second last weekend in Round Six from Miller Motorsports Park, was third fastest with a time of 1:09.823 (101.262 MPH) in the #74 John Walko Racing Uni-select Auto Parts Mazda.

Herrington topped the charts in the afternoon practice session with a time of 1:10.241(100.659 MPH) with championship points leader Adrian Carrio posting the second fastest time of the session at 1:10.347 (100.507 MPH) in the #14 World Speed Motorsports Rockford Fosgate Mazda. Michael Potekhen, who currently sits in third place in the championship, was third fastest in the afternoon sun, setting a time of 1:10.490 (100.304 MPH) in his #53 Apex Racing Avenue Communities Mazda.

The race weekend continues on friday morning with the first of two official practice sessions scheduled to get underway at 9:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time.
