TEAM G.FRO ADDS MANDARINO TO STAR MAZDA LINE-UP
San Clemente, Calif.-based Star Mazda Championship competitor Team G.FRO is proud to announce the signing of race-winner Lorenzo Mandarino.
Mandarino, who will pilot his new #23 Team G.FRO/NEWWAY/Rossi Motorsport Star Mazda racecar, joins an already strong G.FRO driver line-up for the remainder of the season, which includes the likes of triple race-winner Ron White, and front-runner Tyson Sy, of the Philippines. Mandarino is coming off an impressive victory in the last round at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah and hopes to continue his momentum with Team G.FRO.
"I'm excited about joining Team G.FRO and having the opportunity to continue our season," said Mandarino, 19, native of Vancouver, British Columbia. "Thanks to my sponsor NEWWAY for their continued support, Rossi Motorsport, my Dad and Team G.FRO for without them, this deal couldn't have come together. I wish my previous team Northwest Autosport the best of luck and thanks to them for all their hard work during the first four races."
With a three-car line-up, which includes the likes of White, Sy, and now Mandarino, Team G.FRO owner and team manager Geoff Fickling is excited about his team's growth in what is only their first season in the Star Mazda series.
"Its exciting that we were able to put this together for Lorenzo," explained Fickling. "We should be a stronger team in so many areas by not only bringing a driver of his caliber to our team, but by expanding to a third car's worth of data, experience and support."
Mandarino, after coming off his first career win at Utah, currently sits fourth place in the Star Mazda Championship points standings while White is sixth just four points shy. Sy returns this weekend at Portland after being forced to miss the last round while recovering from his concussion suffered in a crash at VIR.
Round five of the 2007 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear will commence June 8-9 at Portland International Raceway.
