JDC MOTORSPORTS' STAR MAZDA DRIVERS RETURN TO ACTION IN PORTLAND
Stage set for Miller, Kraut or Hulse to leave Pacific Northwest as championship leaders

MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (July 23, 2008) -- After a lengthy break between races, the JDC MotorSports squad will resume its defense of the Star Mazda Championship title this weekend (July 26-27) as Rounds Four and Five of the series will take place at Portland International Raceway. The Pacific Northwest facility is one of the few tracks at which the team did not achieve success last season, so drivers Joel Miller, Ernesto Otero, Chuck Hulse and Gerry Kraut are all focused on leaving Oregon on a high note.

Seeking to provide JDC MotorSports with its second consecutive Star Mazda driver and team titles, Miller enters the Portland doubleheader sitting second in the overall championship fight, a mere two points adrift of the series' leading Charles Hall. Piloting the No. 20 MAZDASPEED/K&N Air Filters/Sparco/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports entry, the Californian has already won in his rookie campaign, taking a dominating victory in the season-opener at Sebring. He has finished on the podium in all three races to date as well.

"I can't wait to get back on track," stated Miller. "The JDC MotorSports guys have been working hard at the shop preparing for this event, and I hope to reward their efforts at Portland this weekend by putting my MAZDASPEED/K&N Air Filters/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports car back on top."

As successful as the MAZDASPEED Motorsport Development Ladder driver has been, the veteran duo of Hulse and Kraut have been equally as impressive. Competing in the Masters category for drivers aged 44 or older, Hulse is the current class leader, winning two of three races in his No. 12 Silicon Salvage/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports entry. Just four points adrift, Kraut is second in the championship fight, with one victory and a pair of runner-up finishes behind the wheel of the No. 55 Dougherty & Co./Dougherty Funding LLC/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports car.

For Otero, Round Four will mark the opportunity to build on his first top-10 of the season which came via an eighth place result at Watkins Glen in upstate New York in early June. Piloting the No. 18 Brazilian Green Beef/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports entry, the Brazilian rookie has shown good speed at every event, but had more than his fair share of bad luck.

"I'm really looking forward for to the upcoming races," commented Otero. "I recently had a very good test at Mosport and my car feels better than ever!

With the Star Mazda Championship acting as the headliner for the former Champ Car World Series event, the JDC MotorSports foursome will first roll on-course on Thursday (July 24) as part of a promoter's test day. One day later, two 45-minute practice sessions will be conducted, allowing the drivers and crew to further work on the ideal car setup. Both Saturday and Sunday (July 26-27) will feature 45-minute morning qualifying session, which will set the grid for Rounds Four and Five after the lunch break.
