Jaeger Will be on Hand at Portland And Hopes to Return to Cockpit Soon
FAIRFIELD, N.J., July 19 - Andersen Racing owner Dan Andersen said today that Gerardo Bonilla of Orlando, Fla.; Ramiro Scuncio of Conception, Chile and Doug Prendeville of Whippany, N.J. will represent the Fairfield, N.J.-based team in Saturday's Star Mazda race at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway. Another one of the team's drivers, Brad Jaeger of Cincinnati, will be on hand in Portland to cheer them on as he continues to recuperate from injuries sustained in a similar event June 24 that supported the Canadian Grand Prix.
Saturday afternoon's 45-minute race supports an American Le Mans Series (ALMS) headliner.
Andersen added that Jaeger will miss the team's scheduled test at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. on Friday, July 28, and he may miss Round 8 of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec on Aug. 6 too.
"Brad wants to return as soon as possible, but he is following his doctor's recommendations," Andersen added. "Doug [Prendeville] will be driving for us a gain in Portland, and Gerardo [Bonilla] will be again utilizing Phil Saville's car in Portland."
"I'm getting better, but I'm not quite ready yet" Jaeger said. "The headaches are getting less frequent, and every day I'm getting a little closer. I'm planning on going to Portland tomorrow just to hang out with the team this weekend and say hello. I really don't know when I'll be back in the car; it's hard to plan on anything right now, but it could be anytime in the next two to four weeks."
Jaeger added that noted motorsports specialist Dr. Steve Olvey is reviewing his medical files. "After he looks over my records I'll go down to Miami to talk to him if he thinks I should," he said.
Jaeger noted that he also has the first day of school to consider. He returns to his studies at Vanderbilt University, where he is majoring in mechanical engineering, on Aug. 23.
Jaeger, who finished ninth in last year's Star Mazda race at Portland and won a Pacific Formula 2000 race there in 2004, will also try to help Bonilla, Scuncio, Prendeville and the Andersen Racing engineers and mechanics come up with good set-ups for Portland this weekend. There are only two and a half hours of practice before the drivers will try to break the track record that Pablo Donoso set there last year of 1:08.466 when they qualify Saturday morning. There are two 30-minute practice sessions scheduled for the test day tomorrow (Thursday), and two 45-minute practice sessions on the schedule on Friday. Qualifying is set for 11:15 a.m. Saturday morning, with the race following at 3:20 p.m.
