MJ Motorsports completes first day of testing at Thunderhill Raceway Park
January 11, 2005. Carson, CA. Battling challenging weather conditions MJ Motorsports completed its first day of testing at Thunderhill Raceway Park, in Willows, California. With heavy rain sweeping across the circuit at times the team focused on developing set-ups for various wet weather conditions. Handling the majority of the testing duties, logging 250 miles overall, was recently signed driver Marco Andretti.
"Marco was very impressive showing a great deal of maturity in very slick conditions," commented Team Principal Michael James on the effort the Vonage sponsored driver spent working with the team as the track conditions changed. "As the track began to dry we tested various rain and intermediate settings and were able to establish what we consider will be a competitive set-up in various conditions."
Andretti was also enthusiastic towards the results of this first test. "I feel we got a very good handle of the car in the rain," commented Andretti. "The one dry session that we had showed me the car's real potential. I can't wait to get more time in the car. This is going to be a lot of fun"
Also on hand for the test in the second MJ Motorsports car was former Lynx Atlantic driver Bryan Sellers. MJ Motorsports is seeking corporate funding to allow Bryan to campaign the team entry in 2005. "We feel Bryan has the talent to be very impressive in the series in 2005," James said. "He works very well with the engineers and will be a strong asset to the team."
"I was very impressed at how well the team worked" said Sellers, the 2002 USF2000 Champion. "They were very efficient at getting the drivers fit to the car and out on the track. I feel we made good progress on the set-up throughout the day."
The two drivers also had a chance to feel each other out on track during several laps of testing. "Marco is very aggressive and isn't afraid to drive the car to its limit," commented Sellers.
"Bryan is very fast, and his experience shows. I still have a lot to learn, and he and the team are the best to show me what I need to win," related Andretti.
MJ Motorsports will be back at Thunderhill Jan 21- 22, and at Buttonwillow Jan 28-30 for additional testing.
