JDC MOTORSPORTS TRAVELS TO CALIFORNIA POISED TO WIN SECOND STRAIGHT STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP TITLEJ Joel Miller enters the season finale sitting second in the championship fight
MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (October 16, 2008) -- JDC MotorSports enters the Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear season finale this weekend (October 18-19) positioned to reach its goal of winning back-to-back driver titles. Rookie sensation Joel Miller will once again lead the four-car JDC effort at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, joined by newly-crowned Masters Series champion Chuck Hulse, team co-owner Gerry kraut and series rookie Chris Hundley.
Miller travels within his home state of California confident that he can become the second straight JDC MotorSports rookie to win the series title, following in the footsteps of '07 champ Dane Cameron. Since winning the season-opener at Sebring International Raceway back in March, the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Driver Development Ladder race pilot has been a threat to win both races and the championship fight. Piloting the No. 20 MAZDASPEED/K&N Air Filters/Sparco/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports entry, Miller has visited victory lane on one occasion and has stood on the podium seven times in 11 races. In taking the mandatory one race drop, he commences the event in Northern California second in the title fight, a mere nine points adrift.
For Hulse, Round 12 will provide the California native with the opportunity to end his championship-winning season on a high note in front of friends and family. While he has already captured the Masters Series title via seven class wins in his No. 12 Silicon Salvage/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports car, never finishing outside the top-three, Hulse would like to add to his total of three top-10 overall finishes on his home track.
Kraut enters the season-finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca as the hottest driver on the JDC squad. In the most recent race in Georgia, the Minnesota native scored his third Masters class win, securing second in the championship. Like his teammate, the goal entering the season-finale will not only be to win the class in his No. 55 Dougherty & Co./Dougherty Funding LLC/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports entry, but to also earn a top-10 finish overall.
After making his series debut with JDC at Road Atlanta, Hundley will return to the cockpit of the No. 4 Limousine Connection/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports entry in California. Racing at his home track, he will attempt to better is 13th place finish in Round 11.
The Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear season-finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca commences on Thursday (October 16th) with a pair of promoter's test days. One day later, the JDC MotorSports drivers and the rest of the field will officially begin posting times via two 40-minute practice sessions. Following morning qualifying on Saturday (October 18th), the final race of the 12-race calendar will commence with the Star Mazda cars launching from the standing start.
