JOHN WALKO RACING COMMENCES TESTING FOR THE 2006 STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON
TRAFFORD, PA (February 6, 2006) -John Walko Racing began testing this past week in preparation for the 2006 Pro Mazda Championship with new driver Charles Anti and open-wheel veteran Andrew Prendeville turning laps at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, S.C. on February 1-2.
Anti, a Pittsburgh native, is graduating to the professional ranks following a successful run in Skip Barber Formula Dodge where he won the Eastern Regional Series and finished third in the Midwest Regional Series in 2005.
"I've tested before with this team at our home track, but this was our first full outing to get ready to compete," Anti said. "This is a great group to work with. I was able to turn some competitive times, and I'm really excited for the upcoming season."
Prendeville, a former multiple race winner and championship runner-up in the U.S. Formula Ford 2000 Zetec series while driving for Walko, has moved into the role of Marketing & Promotions Director with team but will also be assisting with coaching and vehicle development.
"I am happy to get back in the car for the first time in a year," Prendeville said. "Everything went smoothly and I feel very comfortable in the car. The team has done an excellent job in preparing for our first test. I could not have asked for a better performance from the team for our first time out in 2006."
Team owner John Walko was pleased with the test.
"Charles got lots of seat time like we need him to," Walko said. More importantly, he started to build a relationship with his engineer Steve Dreizler and crew chief Sebastien Jubelin. As for the team, everything ran smooth and everyone was glad to be back at the track."
The team is seeking interested drivers to join Anti in the STAR Mazda series. The next testing outing for the team will be at Virginia International Raceway on Feb. 23-24). Testing programs and full or partial race seats are available for the 2006 season. Contact email@example.com for more information.
