JDC MOTORSPORTS CONFIRMS OTERO FOR '08 SEASON
Brazilian signs for full season with leading Star Mazda team
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (April 9, 2008) -- Having already kicked off the new Star Mazda Championship season in style with a big win at Sebring, reigning series champions JDC MotorSports are pleased to confirm that Brazilian Ernesto Otero will pilot one the team's cars for the remainder of the 2008 season.
After linking up with JDC MotorSports just prior to the start of the Star Mazda Championship campaign and impressing the team with his performance in the opening round, Otero will now contest the remaining 11 races on the calendar. The young Brazilian quickly bonded with his JDC teammates and the crew and will be part of a multi-car effort, partnering Sebring overall race winner Joel Miller, Masters class winner Chuck Hulse and team co-owner Gerry Kraut. Otero was very quick in Sebring and qualified third before being taken out of the race by an over-eager competitor.
""I am very excited to have Ernesto as part of our team," offered John Church, co-owner of JDC Motorsports. "He is a hard worker and eager to learn each and every day. He will be a great asset to the team."
Racing in North America for the first time in his career, Otero enters the Star Mazda program having raced in multiple formula car series over the past two years. Getting started in his native Brazil, he competed in the Formula Renault Championship before progressing up to the Formula 3 class. Continual gaining experience, Otero took part in both the Campeonato Sudamericano de Formula 3, as well as the British Formula 3 International Series, contesting the National class for older cars.
"I am very happy to be with JDC for the season," offered the transplanted Brazilian. "They're a very professional team, made up of excellent people who work very hard. I learn every day that I am with the team, and I see us fighting for victories during the season."
JDC MotorSports, involved in open-wheel racing since it's inception in 1994, has established itself as one of the leading junior-open wheel teams in North America. Getting started in the SCCA Club Racing, it was not long before the Minnesota-based team was competing in the pro ranks. Taking part in the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship, JDC MotorSports not only won races, but also helped develop the talents and skills of several young drivers. In 2005, the team expanded its efforts, entering the Star Mazda Championship. Quickly becoming one of the top teams in the series, JDC captured both driver and team titles last season, as well as Rookie of the Year honors, with Dane Cameron scoring a series-high three wins. This season, JDC MotorSports is taking part in both the Star Mazda Championship and F2000 Championship Series and currently leads both the Driver and Team Standings with their race-winning rookie Joel Miller.
Otero, having relocated to Minnesota for the 2008 campaign, is currently working with the staff of JDC MotorSports in preparation for Round Two of the Star Mazda Championship on May 17 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT.
