JDC Motorsports Commences 2009 Star Mazda Campaign At Sebring; Former champions set to challenge for series title with talented five-car effort at the season-opener
MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (March 16, 2009) -- As a former series champion, JDC MotorSports knows what is required to win the Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear title. Entering the 2009 season-opening event at Sebring International Raceway in central Florida this week (March 16-20), the Minnesota-based team has all the tools necessary to visit victory lane and commence its march towards the championship crown. With a group of highly specialized and talented crew members supporting their every move, the latest edition of the Star Mazda Championship gets underway with Alex Ardoin, Michael Guasch, Gerry Kraut, Caio Lara and Joel Miller getting behind the wheels of their respective JDC MotorSports entries.
Miller just re-signed with JDC MotorSports this past week and enters Round One as the top returning driver in the series. Piloting the No. 2 Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports entry, the Hesperia, Calif., native will get back in the seat having won the opening round at Sebring one year ago, eventually finishing a close second in the championship fight.
After two seasons in the series with another team, Ardoin will get officially behind the wheel of a JDC car for the first time at Sebring as a proven race winner. The Lafayette, La., driver won the 2007 season-finale and finished an impressive fourth in the title fight last year and he will drive the No. 51 Oral & Facial Surgery Center/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports car in Florida.
Lara makes it three returning series front-runners driving for JDC MotorSports in 2009. The Sao Paolo, Brazil, race driver having ended his 2008 rookie campaign with a pair of top-five finishes via another team, is poised to build on this success behind the wheel of the No. 19 Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports entry.
Not to be left out of the mix, team co-owner Kraut will again pilot the No. 55 Dougherty & Co./Dougherty Funding LLC/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports car in Round One. The North Oaks, Min., race pilot travels to Florida as one of the favorites for Masters Championship top honors, after winning three times in the class last year, en route to a second place finish in the title fight.
Guasch completes the JDC MotorSports driver line-up at Sebring, joining the series for a full campaign in 2009. Driving the No. 91 Molecule/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports entry, the Benicia, Calif. driver scored one Masters Series win and finished third in the championship last year, despite only running five races.
"Everyone at JDC MotorSports is looking forward to the opening round at Sebring," commented team co-owner John Church, "Given the driving talent we have behind the wheels, the goal is to leave Florida with not only valuable points, but a pair of victories."
The on-track action for JDC MotorSports drivers at Sebring International Raceway gets underway on Monday (March 16th), with two one-hour test sessions via a promoters test day. A two further 35-minute test sessions will occur on day later before a lone practice session on Wednesday (March 18th). The following day, the JDC drivers and the rest of the Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear competitors will conduct a morning practice session, prior to the grid being determined via the lone 45-minute qualifying session. Utilizing a standing start procedure for a second consecutive season, Round one is scheduled to commence at 3:55 p.m. local time on Friday (March 20th).
