JDC MOTORSPORTS RETURNS TO OVAL RACING WITH STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP
COMPETITION AT THE IOWA SPEEDWAY
Current team championship leaders enter Round Seven having topped the speed charts in pre-event testing
MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (July 9, 2009) -- JDC MotorSports, only weeks after contesting its first oval race in three years, returns to circle track racing on Friday (July 10), when the Iowa Speedway hosts Round Seven of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. The Minnesota-based squad, which currently leads both the driver and team standings, is expected to once again challenge for top honors during the single-day event, with Adam Christodoulou, Alex Ardoin, Caio Lara and Gustavo Linares set to get behind the wheels at the high-speed oval.
For Christodoulou, the seventh event of the 13-race calendar is yet another opportunity to showcase his racing talents and further extend his lead in the Star Mazda Championship title fight. Despite having never seen an oval in person, let alone raced on one prior to this season, the English junior formula car standout has quickly adapted to the new challenge. Christodoulou, piloting the No. 11 Molecule/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports car, Christodoulou finished second in Round Six at the famed Milwaukee Mile oval, and was quickest during the two-day test at the Iowa Speedway. Given these results, both Christodoulou and the JDC crew are expecting the series rookie to once again be among those in contention for the win when the checkered flag waves.
Ardoin enters the first-ever Star Mazda Championship appearance at the 7/8-mile oval in Iowa as one of the drivers to watch. The Louisiana native has been among the best during the most recent rounds, challenging for wins en route to earning podium finishes at both New Jersey Motorsports Park and the Milwaukee Mile. The No. 51 Oral & Facial Surgery Center/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports race pilot looks poised to build on this success, and continue his charge up the driver standings, having turned the third fastest time during testing in Iowa.
Among the multiple title contenders, Lara has been the most consistent, never finishing outside of the top-10. While anyone will tell you that is key to winning series titles, the talented Brazilian is anxious to score his inaugural series win. While Lara has limited experience on ovals, just Round Six in Milwaukee and the test in Iowa, Round Seven remains a good opportunity for the No.19 MLD/ATW/Molecule/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports driver to achieve that goal, given the pace he has shown thus far.
Linares returns to the cockpit of the No. 20 CanTV/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports car in Iowa seeking to build on the pace he showed in pre-event testing at the tri-oval. Given the Venezuelan rookie was among the top-10 at the high-speed track, the JDC crew believes he has the opportunity to impress in only his third start of 2009.
The on-track action for the JDC MotorSports Star Mazda drivers commences on Friday morning (July 10), with a pair of hour-long practice sessions. This will be followed by single-car qualifying in the mid-afternoon, before the green flag waves for Round Seven of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at 8:30 p.m. local time.
