Dane Cameron to start from the pole position for this afternoons Star Mazda race at the Grand Prix of Houston

Sonoma, CA (April 21, 2007) -- Following up on the promise he showed in setting the fastest lap in each of two qualifying sessions on Friday, Dane Cameron will start from the pole for this afternoons 55-minute Star Mazda race at the Champ Car Grand Prix of Houston.

Cameron's pole time in his #19 JDC MotorSports Pro Formula Mazda was 1:08.148 (89.276 mph average) around Houston's 1.69-mile Reliant Park Street Circuit. Starting from the outside of the front row will be Marco DiLeo with a lap of 1:08.328 (89.041 mph average). The 29-car field is scheduled to take the green flag at 3:20 pm.

"It was cold and foggy this morning during qualifying, completely different weather than we'd seen so far this weekend," said Cameron. "It required a few adjustments to the car to compensate, but the team got it right and we went out and set the fast time on lap six. We knew we'd have to go for it early because of the chance of caution flags, and there were two red flags during the session, one early and one toward the end, so it all worked out pretty much according to plan. Now the trick will be staying out of trouble the first couple of laps, building a little bit of a lead and being careful about passing lapped traffic."

Houston is the second round of the 12-race 2007 Star Mazda Championship schedule. Live timing and scoring will be available online at www.starmazda.com. Star Mazda races are broadcast tape-delayed on SPEED TV. Date and time (all times stated are Eastern) for the one-hour broadcast is available at www.speedtv.com/programs.

Cameron, currently keeping his skills sharp between races as an instructor at the Jim Russell Racing School at Infineon Raceway, arrives in the Star Mazda series via an accomplished climb up the open-wheel ladder. He was the 2006 F2000 Rookie of the Year and finished second in the championship. As a Team USA Scholarship driver, he won the 2006 Palmer Audi Winter Championship in Europe. In 2005 Cameron was the SCCA Formula Jim Russell Series champion and Rookie of the Year. His karting career, beginning in 2000, was similarly successful, including the 2003 Jim Russell Karting 80cc Junior Shifter Championship and a 2004 finalist in the Red Bull Driver Search.

Cameron's participation in the 2007 Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear is made possible by a variety of sponsors; including: Mockett.com, Ocean Tomo, Rett.org, Nearburg Exploration, O'Neill Construction, Red Line Oil and Sparco USA and JDC MotorSports. Cameron, with the assistance of fellow racer Rob Finlay, also continues as a driver in the Finlay Motorsports Driver Development Program.

The next event on the schedule is April 27-28 at Virginia International Raceway with the Grand American series.
