Frisselle Takes 12th for G&W Motorsports at Mid-Ohio
LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 26, 2004) - Brian Frisselle (Kihei, Hawaii) garnered G&W Motorsports a 12th-place finish in the Star Mazda Series North American Championship presented by Goodyear race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course today. Frisselle piloted the Ventura Travel Service No. 15 Pro Formula Mazda in a record-size field of 41 entries that competed in the 45-minute race.
Brad Coleman (Houston, Texas) brought in G&W Motorsports' other entry, the Podium No. 33 Pro Formula Mazda, in the 22nd position. Both the team's entries were among the 28 cars that finished on the lead lap of the race.
Mike McDowell, who joined G&W Motorsports last weekend in the Rolex Sports Car Series race at Watkins Glen International, took top honors at Mid-Ohio with the Star Race Cars team.
Nineteen-year-old Frisselle, son of renowned sports car driver Brad Frisselle, is working to follow in his father's footsteps. In only his third race ever, he took second place at Road America. Last season, he finished out the Formula Dodge National Championships with three-straight wins. The Star Mazda rookie is sponsored by Ventura Travel Services, Skip Barber Racing Series, Sparco and Axcel Fast Graphics.
At only 16 years old, Coleman is the youngest competitor in the Star Mazda Series. Despite his young age, he already has a lot of experience under his belt. He raced in the Fran-Am West Coast Championship last season and has competed in karting races in three different classes.
The Star Mazda Series North American Championship presented by Goodyear now heads directly to Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., for round three of the championship on July 2-3. The Mid-Ohio round of the championship will be aired on SPEED Channel on July 11 at Noon ET. For more information on the Star Mazda Series please visit www.starmazda.com.
