Canadian Daniel DiLeo has joined factory Star Mazda team.
TORONTO, ON. -- 21-year-old Daniel DiLeo has recently signed with the Valley Motor Center factory Star Race Cars Pro Formula Mazda team to compete in this years Star Mazda North American Championship presented by Goodyear. DiLeo, who is fresh off a 3rd place finish in the 2003 Barber Dodge Pro Series points standings, will look to make an immediate impact in the series first event that will be held in Sebring, FL.
DiLeo, who is a multi-time national karting champion, will bring the knowledge, skills and abilities to force an immediate threat in the Star Mazda series. His experience gained in years of motorsports will make him a championship contender from the drop of the first green flag in less then two weeks time. With the end goal ultimately being the Champ Car World Series, DiLeo has made his way into the upper echelon of motorsports in North America and is closer then ever to reaching his goals.
DiLeo will team up with 2003 championship runner-up Michael McDowell and former factory mazda driver Nick Steele and the trio will look to take the Valley Motor Center team to the top of the podium at each and every event. An added benefit to the team is the hiring of Toyota Atlantic Lynx's team technical directors who will help the drivers, engineer and team get up to speed quickly with the new package that is set to hit the track in Sebring.
"I tested with the team a few weeks ago," explained DiLeo. "The car was awesome and the team is great. We had a very productive test and I learned a lot from being behind the wheel of the new car. I think we have a good mix of skills in the team and I hope I am the ingredient needed to bring them the premiere championship in the most competitive ladder series around. This series will provide a field of over thirty cars, the opportunity to network with many of motorsports top ALMS teams, and most importantly will create the recognition needed to achieve the goal of being considered North America's top prospect."
Beginning his racing career early in karting, the 21-year-old Markham, Ontario resident proceeded to win several national karting championships and worked his way to the Skip Barber program. After a victory in Laguna Seca, four podiums and a rash of top tens in the 2003 Barber Dodge Pro Series, DiLeo is anxious to get the season under way.
For the talented racer, this year will be a very important one in his quest of motorsports supremacy. With a ride in the 2005 Champ Car World Series still being the ultimate goal, DiLeo has shifted his focus to keep in close contact with American Le Mans Series teams, as well as Toyota Atlantic team owners.
The young Canadian is looking forward to the upcoming season and is excited about working with a new team, new engineers, new cars and the chance to show North America motorsports the name that will be in the sport for a long time
