Saville to Run with Andersen Racing In Three Star Mazda Events This Year In Preparation for Full Season in '07
FAIRFIELD, N.J., April 22 - Andersen Racing is pleased to announce that Phil Saville of Oak Brook, Ill. will drive one of its race cars at three races in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear: Montreal, Quebec June 23-25; Trois-Rivieres, Quebec Aug. 5-6 and Braselton, Ga. Sept. 29-30.
The Montreal race is part of the prestigious Formula One weekend at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. The Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres is a popular street race that also features the Grand-Am Cup endurance sports car series. The event in Georgia is part of the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta Motorsports Park, one of the biggest races of the year for the American Le Mans Series.
All of the Star Mazda races are televised in one-hour, tape-delayed programs on the SPEED Channel.
Saville will begin his new role with the Fairfield, N.J.-based team right away, as he'll participate in a two-day test with his new teammates at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio on May 4-5. Additional test dates on his schedule with the team include July 6-7 at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah and at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario Aug. 23-24.
Saville's car will be sponsored by New York Jewelers of Chicago, the fine jewelry and diamonds business that he's owned for 26 years. It offers the largest and finest selections of loose diamonds, jewelry and watches in the Chicago area. Additional sponsorship will come from NVG Residential, which specializes in the conversion of high-rise apartments into condominiums. Headquartered in Chicago, quality construction, enhanced lifestyle and home value are the hallmarks of the NVG Residential name. A third supporter will be the Mac Marketing & Advertising Corp., also of Chicago, which specializes in real estate advertising.
All three of these sponsors will also be aboard Saville's car for the 2007 season, when he plans to contest the complete Star Mazda schedule.
"My goals this year are to improve my skills and then bring a championship to Andersen Racing in 2007," Saville said. "I'm looking forward to a strong '07 season with them."
Saville didn't have to be prompted to give his new team high praise. "I think it's the best team out there," he said. "There isn't anybody out there that's doing the job they're doing.
"The big thing that attracted me to them is the overall professionalism of the staff, especially their mechanics and engineers," he added. "They will provide a race car that I'll know is prepared as well as any on the track, so the results will then be up to me."
The next Star Mazda race is part of the Grand Prix of Houston May 13-14. Andersen Racing will field cars for Brad Jaeger of Cincinnati; Gerardo Bonilla of Orlando, Fla., and Ramiro Scuncio of Conception, Chile in that event. Jaeger won the pole at the first race of the season and Bonilla won the race, underscoring in no uncertain terms that Andersen Racing and its drivers are title contenders.
In addition to running for the overall championship next year, Saville will also be eligible for special prizes in the series' expert point standings, which ranks drivers who are 30-44 years old. Saville, who is currently 43, has been racing for four years, and he has one year of Star Mazda competition under his belt. Prior to advancing to the Star Mazda series he recorded many victories in Skip Barber Masters national and regional events, and he also hones his skills regularly in go-karts.
