RYAN HOOKER : RETURN TO WINNING WAYS

It was a welcome return to the top step of the podium for Upminster's Ryan Hooker, who took a strong win in the Porsche 924 Championship at Mallory Park on 5th June.

Taking a busman's holiday, Ryan used one of his weekend's free from British GT duties to enter the Porsche 924 race, in the championship which he won in 2002. "I don't seem to be able to give the Porsches up!" said Ryan, "It is a great series and sometimes in motor racing a change is as good as a rest. It's always good to be back in the Porsche 924 paddock and the great racing it provides."

Ryan qualified in third place with just a tenth of a second covering the first three at the compact Leicestershire circuit, ready for the afternoon's race.

Ryan made a good start and slotted into third place but on the back straight , Richard Mowbray in fifth place received a tap which sent him into a spin and a heavy crash into the barriers. Thankfully Mowbray was unhurt but the race was immediately red flagged to allow his stricken car to be removed.

At the restart, Ryan made another strong getaway and once more slotted into third behind Will Disdale and leader, Carl Powell. Nose to tail racing ensued and exiting the Devils Elbow onto the pit straight, Ryan was able to pass Disdale to take second place before latching onto Powell. Several laps followed with Ryan on Powell's bumper before he made his move on the pit straight to grab the lead. Carl remained in close contention before an engine problem sadly forced his retirement. Ryan went on to take the chequered flag, and his first race win at Mallory Park

"It's great to finally bag a win at this circuit" said Ryan afterwards, "and it was a very enjoyable race. I hope to be able to take part in the next Porsche 924 round at Cadwell Park on 19th June, it will be a good way to warm up for my next British GT outing the week afterwards at Castle Combe!"
