FIGHT TO THE FLAG AT BRANDS FOR GEDDIE

Aberdeen's Glynn Geddie rounded off his 2010 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season with two superb drives at Brands Hatch at the weekend, securing a fine podium finish in Race 1 and putting in a fantastic drive to finish 9th in Race 2 having started dead last.

Starting from 5th for Race 1 Geddie held position for the opening laps in a five-car leading pack, behind Michael Caine and team mate Euan Hankey. However, just as the race started to settle in to a rhythm, Caine spun on dropped coolant at Graham Hill Bend, costing Hankey and Geddie time as they lost the leaders, before the former picked up a puncture.

With a clear road in front and no pressure from behind Geddie was able to take P3 and score his third podium of the season. Unfortunately the race was eventually won by Team Parker Racing team mate, and championship rival, Stephen Jelley, who was able to extend the gap between himself and Geddie in the championship.

Geddie then had it all to do in Race 2, needing to get 8 points over Jelley if he was to finish third in the championship. A problem with the flywheel as the team gave the car its pre-race warm-up meant the gearbox would have to be taken out with less than half an hour before race start, resulting in Geddie having to start from the pit lane.

As soon as the race started, before a record 42,000 fans, Apex Tubulars-backed Geddie went on a charge through the field and made up twenty-four places to eventually finish in P9, less than three-tenths of a second off Tony Gilham in P8. In the process he collected fastest lap but it was little consolation as Jelley went on to win his second race of the weekend, leaving Geddie to maintain 4th in the drivers' standings.

Glynn Geddie:
"I'm disappointed to not have stolen 3rd in the championship Jelley but I feel I did all I could considering the problems we had at the start of Race 2 and I was well aware that it would be a nearly impossible task to beat him. It was good fun coming from so far back and taking all those places though so I did really enjoy it.

"This has been my first season in the Pro category and, although I've come away from some races wishing we had a better result, I've never come away wishing I had tried harder. I've always given it my best shot but we've had our fair share of problems and some stiff competition, especially against some of the more experienced guys out there, but I've learnt a lot and will for sure come back even stronger next year."

Geddie will now switch back to British GT-mode as he takes on Donington Park to maintain and secure his 2nd place in the championship this weekend.
