AL HARTHY HAPPY WITH CROFT QUALIFYING PACE
Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship racer Ahmad Al Harthy was satisfied with his qualifying pace at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire this afternoon, Saturday, 19th June, after posting the fourth fastest time in the Pro-Am 1 Class for both of the weekend's 15 lap races.
Just a week on from his first ever experience of the world-famous Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, the 28-year-old returned to the more familiar surroundings of the national UK motor racing scene for the ninth and 10th rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season and he was quickly up-to-speed.
Marking the first time Ahmad has driven his 420bhp Porsche at Croft's challenging 2.12-mile circuit, the Oman Air, National Bank of Oman, Brand Oman and Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs-backed driver progressed well throughout pre-event practice on Friday, 18th June, and improved his pace yet further during today's 30-minute qualifying session.
Lapping with a best time of 1m23.863 seconds (91.22mph) to secure fourth in class on the grid for round nine, he backed that effort up with a highly consistent second-best time of 1m23.952 seconds to ensure fourth in Pro-Am 1 for the start of round 10 as well.
"Qualifying was the fastest I've been all weekend so that's very positive, it shows we're improving each time we're on track", said Ahmad, "We know we have good race pace and I'm happy where I am on the grid, I think we can have two good races from there to be honest. If we can bang in consistent laps in the races, we should do well."
Ahmad's participation at Croft this weekend is thanks in no small part to the exceptional efforts of the Redline Racing team who worked incredibly hard to fit a brand new shell to his Porsche due to damage incurred during qualifying for the 24 Hours of Le Mans support race last weekend.
He commented: "The team got the new shell for the car on Monday morning, they've worked unbelievably hard to get everything ready for this weekend. I want to thank all of them for doing such a fantastic job for me."
Round nine of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship will take place at 12.45 tomorrow, Sunday, 20th June, with round 10 getting underway at 16.25 -- both races will be screened live in the UK on cable, digital satellite and Freeview channel ITV4.
