OMAN'S AL HARTHY AIMING TO END DEBUT PORSCHE SEASON ON A HIGH
Brands Hatch Indy Circuit hosts the season finale of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship just under a fortnight from now, 9th/10th October, and it's where Pro-Am 1 competitor Ahmad Al Harthy aims to conclude his maiden sportscar campaign on a high with yet more podium success.
The 29-year-old category rookie, who raced single-seaters prior to the 2010 season, has given a truly superb account of himself throughout the year and has turned heads on numerous occasions with his tremendous pace.
Currently fourth overall in the Pro-Am 1 standings, Ahmad has enjoyed an outstanding first year in the prestigious Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship-supporting category. Getting 2010 off to a perfect start with a double podium on his Porsche debut at Thruxton in April, he has since made three further visits to the rostrum but is hungry for more before the close of the season.
Consistently strong at the wheel of his Oman Air, National Bank of Oman, Nawras, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs and Brand Oman supported Porsche, Ahmad has taken the fight to experienced rivals like Tony Gilham and Ollie Jackson and he'll be battling as hard as ever two weeks from now.
Ahead of rounds 19 and 20 of the championship, the Muscat-based Omani has a goal of striving for the Pro-Am 1 podium in both encounters and with qualifying all-important on the short and twisty 1.2-mile circuit, he'll be working to get the most from his tyres to ensure a good grid position.
"Qualifying will be so important for the final two races, Brands Indy is such a short lap and the possibilities for overtaking are very limited", he commented, "We need to try and get the maximum from the tyres to get a good grid position from both races and if I can make the kind of starts I have been recently, we should be in good shape.
"At Donington last time out I was really pleased with the way I got off the line in each race and in terms of our race pace, we've always been strong. It'd be a dream if I can take another podium before the end of the season but, whatever happens, it's been an incredible year. I'm so grateful to my amazing sponsors for their unbelievable support -- it's an honour to be involved with them."
Practice for the 2010 season finale of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship will take place on Friday, 8th October, with qualifying for rounds 19 and 20 currently scheduled to be held at 13.50 (UK time) on Saturday, 9th October, ahead of the first race at around 17.40. Round 20, the final race of the year, will get underway at approximately 14.45 on Sunday, 10th October.
