Saudi champion ends series with a flourish

Riyadh. Saudi Arabia's Prince Abdulaziz Al Faisal took his dominance of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East all the way to the finish as he scored an emphatic victory in the 12th and final round today.

His ninth win in the series at Reem International Circuit outside Riyadh, a week after he had clinched the title at the same venue, meant he rounded off the championship as had begun in Bahrain back in December.

After claiming pole position for the seventh time this season, Bahrain's Sheikh Salman bin Rashid Al Khalifa had been determined to claim his second race victory to round off the innaugural Porshe one-make series.

But he was passed on the first turn as Prince Abdulaziz made the better start, and from that point on the result was never in doubt. Sheikh Salman also finished runner-up in the championship.

Fahad Algosaibi claimed the other podium position ahead of Saudi's Bandar Aleyasi who ended the series in third place overall.

Despite starting ninth on the grid and being hit early on the first lap, Abu Dhabi's Khaled Al Qubaisi climbed through the field to finish fifth, while Raed Abuzenadah completed the top six.

Alter clinching the Mobil 1 Trophy for rookies and senior amateur drivers 24 hours earlier, Faisal Binladen went out after a third lap collision with team-mate Bandar Alireza who lost fourth place in the championship as a result.
