Entry in the United Arab Emirate GT Championship with aPorsche 911 GT3 Cup S
Francorchamps / Dubai. The Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium based Muhlner Motorsport Team will be entered in the five remaining rounds of the new GT Championship in the United Arab Emirates with a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S, with which the internationally successful team competed in the 2009 ADAC GT Masters and the FIA GT3 European Championship. They will be running the car for the in Dubai resident businessman Hassan Rassouli.
The first round of the UAE GT Championship took place last October and sparked the interest of Radical driver Hassan Rassouli. He tasked one of his employees, himself an active race driver and instructor at the Dubai Autodrome, to check the market for possible teams and competitive cars. This resulted in contact being made with Muhlner Motorsport and Bernhard Muhlner travelling to Dubai for the second round of the series in November.
"The championship appealed to me immediately and I can see big potential here for the future of our internationally orientated team. Thus I was quickly able to reach an agreement with Hassan for us to run him in the remaining races of the 2009/10 season" recalled Bernhard Muhlner.
The preparations were not complete in time for an entry in the 3rd round at the beginning of December but Muhlner Motorsport came over to get further impressions of the level of competition and a better idea of how the meetings are run.
At the beginning of January the car and equipment were flown out from Brussels to Dubai with DHL: "We have sent our cars with DHL before -- to Dubai or Bahrain and even to Tokachi in Japan. We know that with Stefan Roth and his team, our valuable equipment is in good hands" said Bernhard Muhlner.
In the next round, at the end of January, Hassan Rassouli will be sharing the cockpit with the Singapore based Englishman Andrew Donaldson. The following round on the 20th February will be held on the brand new F1 Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. Then there will be one round in March and two in April on differing configurations of the Dubai Autodrome.
"The UAE GT Championship is set to become a firm fixture in our program. We are hoping to find a crew for a second car this season and for the 2010/2011 season we aim to run as many as three or four cars" said Bernhard Muhlner, allowing us a glimpse into his future planning.
Muhlner Motorsport's European season starts in February with the FIA Balance of Performance in Paul Ricard on the High Speed Test Track at Le Castellet. The team will once again be contesting the Porsche Sports Cup, the ADAC GT Masters and the FIA European GT3 Championship. Negotiations are continuing on their possible participation in the VLN endurance series at the Nurburgring and the ADAC Nurburgring 24hrs.
