After resigning himself to the fact that he would be missing round four of the Carrera Cup at Hidden Valley in Darwin, an overnight sponsorship deal right on deadline has guaranteed Tim Leahey a chance to score more championship points.

The Greg Murphy Racing driver had initially been unable to make the trek to Darwin due to financial constraints, though a very last minute deal will see him line up on the grid in his #55 Mossimo Porsche GT3 Cup car.

"We simply weren't going to be making it to Darwin and that's the way it was, but at the very last minute there's been a couple of people locally in Orange who have really come up to the plate and chipped in to help us get there," said Leahey.

"Without them, we would be sitting at home watching guys like Jim Richards and Marcus Marshall scoring more and more points and getting further and further away in the pointscore, so at least we're in with a shot of keeping up."

While the 11th-hour deal will get Leahey to Darwin, the 26-year-old still isn't so sure about round five at Queensland Raceway in July.

"At the moment, Queensland is looking pretty doubtful, but it depends on what sort of result we can get in Darwin. Maybe we can impress enough people to help us get to Queensland.

"I'd hope we could, because from the first two rounds of the series, as well as the Australian GP telecasts on Channel 10, our car is leading the television exposure figures in Carrera Cup, with some $374,000 worth of exposure. That surely has to interest a few people!"

Leahey will again line-up alongside his GMR team-mates, former Formula 4000 Silver Star champions Peter Hill and Roger Oakeshott.
