Sensational Result for Supabarn Motorsports
Canberra based Supabarn Motorsport drivers, James and Theo Koundouris have picked up one of their best team result of the season finishing in 7th and 8th respectfully in Sunday's third and final race of the Australian Carrera Cup support races to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
The results came from a solid weekend that saw the pair keep their noses clean and deliver a series of strong results.
James Koundouris added the 7th place finish to his two top ten finishes in the first two races of the weekend, comfortably taking out the Pilatus Challenge for the weekend.
His strong results also saw him further extend his lead in the Challenge.
"Racing around this track is very special and to do well you really need to drive cleanly and consistently; it is too easy to get caught out by pushing too hard," said James after the final race.
"I am really pleased with how well the team has done this weekend.
"Theo and my weekend got off to a great start with us discovering that we have been driving to Bathurst the long way for the last five year.
"On our way here we found a more direct route that took almost an hour off the journey time!
"To come home with three top ten results and extending my championship lead is a great way to finish the weekend.
Theo Koundouris had a difficult start to the round with car problems restricting his track time during practice and qualifying.
"I did not have the chance to really string a series of quick laps together until the second race," said Theo after the round.
"I felt I was chasing the field, but from the second race I was able to stettle into the car, get in a rhythm and push hard.
"Finishing in the top ten in the final race is a great reward for all our hard work this weekend."
The Team now makes to journey from the Mountain to the streets of Surfers Paradise and their final round of the championship at the Nikon Indy 300 in just two weeks time.
