Champagne finish for David Wall
A hat trick of podium finishes for David Wall in the final round of the Carrera Cup Australia held on the streets of Surfers Paradise this weekend has seen David finish the round tied for points with winner James Moffat.
Moffat was awarded the round win after winning the third race.
Race two was run on Saturday afternoon, less than an hour after a heavy rain storm passed through the Gold Coast.
Fortunately, a dry line had started to appear as the cars formed on the grid.
With dark clouds looming, David and his team had a difficult decision as to what tyres to run. They chose slicks, which proved to be the correct decision with the rain holding off for the duration of the race.
David got a clean start, tucking in behind David Russell and was running in 3rd place.
After 4 laps David was pulling away from the battle for 4th place between Caratti and Moffat, however he was delayed by a back marker dropping back from Russell and into the clutches of Moffat.
"I got baulked which dropped me back which was frustrating but another podium finish is fantastic. The team has worked really hard all year and we are looking really good result in tomorrow's final race," said David after Saturday's race.
David came home in 3rd place.
In contrast to Saturday's race, Sunday morning's third race and the final race of the Carrera Cup Australia 2008 season was greeted by bright, warm sunshine.
David once again made a good start, holding onto 3rd position into the first corner with Moffat and Caratti hot on his heels.
Moffat squeezed past David going into Seek turn, forcing David wide and opening the door for Caratti to push his way through as well.
The move also allowed Jones to close the gap and was running right on David's tail on the 4th lap.
David turned his lights on and pushed hard, determined not to give up the battle.
On the second last lap of the race, front-runners Baird and Russell made contact into the Seek turn, forcing both to drop back the order, promoting David to 3rd place where he finished the race.
"After Moffat and Caratti got through, I turned my lights on and pushed hard," said David after the final race.
"Finishing on the podium in all three races this weekend and finishing with equal points with the round winner is an awesome result, especially for the team who have worked so hard all year to give me a car capable of such great results.
"To have such a successful weekend at such a daunting circuit that resembles a concrete tunnel rather than a traditional circuit and particularly to do it in front of such a big audience is very rewarding.
"I need to say a special thank you to my sponsors; Payce, Mount Aqua, and Shannons Insurance.
"None of this would have been possible without their continued support throughout the season.
"And of course thank you to my team, Jim Richards Racing for giving me a car to get the job done."
