Thai triumphs in action packed race

Thailand's Charoensukawattana Nattavude took a superb victory today in Round 2 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia after an incident-filled 10-lap race. South African Toby Venter finished second, with Briton Nigel Albon in third.

At the start, pole sitter Ventor got away cleanly, but Albon managed to get ahead of arch rival Charles Kwan off the grid. The hard-charging trio provided some of the most thrilling racing the series has seen so far, with Kwan and Albon both closely challenging Ventor.

Lap 3 saw Ventor lose some momentum, allowing the duelling Albon and Kwan by him. However, disaster struck for Kwan when he collided while trying to overtake the Briton. Albon spun, and Nattavude and Venter saw their chance. "When Charles and I touched, I had no idea where I was going," said Albon. "Nattavude and Toby both did a great job avoiding me." Kwan retired as a result of damaged sustained during the incident.

Nattavude took the lead from there with a clear run to the chequered flag. His win gave him pole position for Round 3 of the series.

The race saw several other incidents, as the series drivers become more familiar with their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machines and the competition increases.

Another Thai driver, Vuttihkorn I finished 4th having started from 10th on the grid after a skilled performance.

Mobil1 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia VIP guest driver, Jimmy Lin of Taiwan, drove a mature race in his first outing in a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car to finish 14th.

The Porsche Carrera Cup "one-make" concept, identical machines with only
minimal modifications permitted, ensures that the combination of skill,
talent and experience of the drivers and teams is the deciding factor in
competition. A comprehensive service concept supports the series.
