This weekend V8 Supercar drivers Paul Radisich and Alex Yoong will race in Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars in the Carrera Cup, not in Australia and not even in the same country.

Radisich, who campaigns the Team Betta Electrical Ford BA Falcon in the V8 Supercar Championship Series, will line up in the final round of the Carrera Cup Great Britain at Donington Park.

The touring car ace will dovetail the Porsche races with contesting the Touring Car Masters event over the same weekend. The Masters race is bringing together 16 past champions of the British Touring Car Championship.

The New Zealander, now living and racing in Australia, was twice winner of the FIA World Touring Car Championship and won six BTCC races during the 1990s.

WPS Racing's Alex Yoong has returned to the Formula One arena, this time to race in the support event at this weekend's inaugural F1 Grand Prix in China.

Yoong will be lining up on the starting grid in the Carerra Cup Asia, making him the first of the V8 Supercar drivers to compete at the impressive new Shanghai International Circuit.

The Australian Carrera Cup is one of seven Porsche Carrera Cup series around the world, with the list including Asia, Great Britain, Japan, France, Scandanavia, Germany and Australia.

"I am really looking forward to racing in a Porsche," said Radisich. "This will be my first time racing in one. I enjoy the cars immensely after working with them at the Porsche Driving Centre at Mt Cotton.

"I would love to have a go in the Australian Carrera Cup one day -- it has really established itself as a premier support category to the V8 Supercars."

Yoong can't wait to test himself on the Shanghai circuit, and being part of the whole F1 show.

"I was invited to compete in the Carerra Cup race and it gives me the perfect opportunity to be part of the whole F1 event," said Yoong. "I have always had great support from the Chinese, particularly during my F1 days, so it is good to be here and be part of the whole experience.

Radisich and Yoong add to the list of drivers who have competed in both the V8 Supercar Championship Series and the Carrera Cup in 2004. The others include Craig Baird, Jim Richards, Alex Davison, Fabian Coulthard, Matt Halliday and David Thexton.

The next round of the Australian Carrera Cup is in Bathurst for the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 - round eight from October 7 to 10.

The Carrera Cup is the most successful 'one make' championship in the world with close-to-identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars built by Porsche' racing arm in Weissach, Germany set for racing in 2004. All cars have a top speed in excess of 300 kilometres per hour with a 400-horsepower, 6 cylinder Boxer engine which revs to 8000 RPM.
