Minassian (7th): "We still have to work a lot, but my feeling with the car was OK"
Cheste, October 18th 2002 -- Ricardo Zonta has set an impressive lap during the second Free Practice Session by improving in one second his best register achieved in Valencia. (1.24.284, May 12th). Zonta, the current leader of this competition, did a fantastic job today, while Bas Leinders (KTR), second in the overall standings, was placed in an unusual 12th position, at 1.126 seconds from the Brazilian. Montagny, the third best driver of the Season, was fifth, behind his team-mate, the British Justin Wilson.
The 2002 winner team, Epsilon by Graff, placed his two drivers, Vilariño and Ravier, in second and third positions. Michel Leconte was really proud of these two young talents: "Ander and Jean-Cristophe did a very nice job. We are really proud. The team has been working very hard these days. Ander was close to improve the time of Ricardo, but then the car suffered an engine pump problem, and we lost some pretty time."
Also a brilliant day in the Austrian Zele Motorsport Team, as Rafael Sarandeses achieved the sixth best timed lap. Damien Faulkner, in his return to this Series, was 18th.
Nicolas Minassian (GD Racing), who also is taking part in the FFSA Formule France Series, was quite happy with his first real contact with the Dallara-Nissan cars. The recently proclamed ASCAR Champion was pretty confident with this first incursion, but he said that there's a lot of work to do.
Ryo Fukuda, Patrick Friesacher, and Ricardo Sperafico, are amongst the extense list of drivers that will test the Dallara-Nissan cars at Valencia next Monday. Also a new powerful version of the Nissan V6 engine, (450 hp), will be tested during the day. Finally, Bas Leinders (KTR) will be the driver designed for this duty.
Formula Nissan 2000
Porteiro (Repsol-Meycom) has been the fastest driver during today's Free Practice Sessions. Bobbi (Vergani Racing), the man who is in fight with the Spaniard for the Tittle, to be decided this same weekend, has been second. But if they fail to win the races, Jose Manuel Perez Aicart could also give a nice surprise to his local supporters.
Formula Junior 1600
Adrian Vallés (Escuela Lois Circuit) has been acting today as a real Champion. In the second session of the day, he has improved his own best time by one second. His team-mate, Alvaro Barba, has been second, followed by Victor Jaouen. Sunday, Vallés will be crowned as the first Champion of the small category of the Telefónica World Series by Nissan Series.
