Teretonga TRS: Verschoor dominates Race 3 as Randle goes off

Red Bull junior Richard Verschoor extended his Toyota Racing Series championship lead by taking the Spirit of a Nation trophy at Teretonga.

Verschoor inherited the lead from Thomas Randle on Lap 6, the Australian leading the early stages of the race from second on the grid.

Despite a strong start to the race, Randle went off and subsequently dropped down to fourth, letting Verschoor, Ferdinand Habsburg and Jehan Daruvala through.

He quickly regained a spot as Habsburg, who was putting pressure on Verschoor, dropped down the order a lap later.

Verschoor's advantage was more than four seconds afterwards and the Dutchman kept increasing the gap to eventually win by a dominant 10.9s.

Indian Daruvala secured second with a safe gap over Randle, who had to settle for third.

Ferrari junior Marcus Armstrong finished fourth following a late move on pole-sitter Brendon Leitch.

The TRS veteran dropped to fourth place on Lap 1 and lost another position to Daruvala soon afterwards.

He eventually ended up seventh as not only Armstrong but Race 2 winner Pedro Piquet and Kami Laliberte overtook him as well.

The top 10 was rounded out by Enaam Ahmed, Taylor Cockerton and Christian Hahn.
