SBRS: Watkins Glen Friday practice notes

ALFONSO RIBEIRO (#33 Auto Nation) - The multi-talented newcomer became the first casualty of the second session with an early crash. "It happened in turn 10...I just made a mistake. I tried something different and it didn't work. I'm behind, and I just have to make it up. It's cool. I know where I did it. It's race experience. I'll get it tomorrow."

CHRIS MENNINGA (#5 Menninga Electric) - "The first session we were having a pretty big problem with the car in the left rear end, and it just got this wallow through the right hand corners. I made a lot of changes to try and mask the problem because we couldn't get it fixed for the second session, because they were too close back to back, and it worked. Not as well as I would have liked, but I think when they fix that for tomorrow, then I can make adjustments to make the car better, and maybe we'll catch Rino (Mastronardi, #20 Cauduro Driver's Management).

BILL TICHENOR (#2 Heftel Broadcasting) - Tichenor's Barber Dodge debut came in the season opener in St. Petersburg, where his pregnant wife watched him touch wheels with Derek Hill, flip, spin, and land upside-down against a tire wall in one of, if not the most spectacular crash the series has seen. During the first practice session here at the Glen, he joined the long list of rookies and others that have been bitten by turn one. The setback was small, however, as he was able to improve his fast lap time by nearly 17 seconds in the second session. "Actually, they put me in another car, because they had to pull the motor. My car is totally taken apart. Being in a new car, I ended up using all basic settings and just going out and driving it, and it's a wonderful track. It's really fast. Today I just stayed out and tried to learn the track, and we'll work on the settings tomorrow." Emerson Stewart Tichenor was born on May 7th, 1997.
