(NAZARETH, Pa) Apr. 8, 2000 - Single-car qualifying is set to take place this afternoon, weather permitting, for Round 3 of the Barber Dodge Pro Series. Following the morning practice session, 22 of 24-cars entered eclipsed the qualifying record around the Nazareth Speedway oval.
On combined practice session times, the entire field is separated by a meager nine-tenths of a second.
Sepp Koster, of the Netherlands, again came away atop the time sheets improving on his Friday practice time to lower the standard to 0:26.733 sec. for an average speed of 127.393 mph around the 0.946-mile oval.
"The gap with the other guys has been under two-hundredths, but I've been comfortably doing their times, so I think the car definitely has the potential to be put on pole," Koster said following the morning practice.
New for this year, Koster is working with 1998-99 Barber Dodge Pro Series Runner-up Todd Snyder who will be driving for Brian Stewart Racing in the CART Indy Lights Series. Koster credits some of his success to the new collaboration, citing the fact that Snyder is in constant radio communication with him, which helps to keep him relaxed and focused throughout each session.
Peter Boss and Ryan Hunter-Reay improved on their Friday practice times with Boss now second quick and Hunter-Reay third quick. Boss, fourth yesterday was able to shave more than two-tenths off his time for a 26.806-sec. lap. Hunter-Reay jumped up three spots in the order to improve his time to a 26.820-sec. lap.
