The Formula Dodge National Championship Presented by RACER enters the backstretch this weekend with Bryan Sellers firmly mounted on the points lead. Rounds 7 and 8 of the 13-race series will take place on August 4-6 at Putnam Park in Meridian, Indiana. Race action will occur on the 10-turn, 1.77 mile road course with 19 young pilots competing in Formula Dodge R/T 2000 racecars. The combatants will race as one group over the two race days.

Sellers is having a remarkable season, with two wins and two second place finishes to his credit. His worst outing to date was a sixth place finish at Road America. Craig Duerson, currently second in 2000 standings, looks to reduce the margin. The Floridian suffered a setback during the last round when he tangled in Canada Corner with a fellow driver. The contact put him out of commission and further behind Sellers in points. Jon Morley, of Columbus, Ohio, enters the weekend with a tenuous hold on third place, only 2 points ahead of Canadian Anthony Simone. Simone won his first race in Round 5, besting the leader Sellers in a restart of the contest.

Several drivers are making a hard charge, finishing stronger and consistently putting up crucial points. In addition to Simone, keep an eye on Kevin Christensen, who won at Road America and nabbed 29 of a possible 40 points on the weekend. His weekend tally moved him into 12th place. Scott Presti, of Naples, Florida, has also improved steadily and propelled himself into seventh place and Championship contention. Damian Della-Santina, currently in fifth, had an off weekend at Road America and is hoping to avoid two consecutive poor outings.

Following this weekend’s action, the series moves to Gateway International Raceway in East St. Louis, Illinois for rounds 9 and 10 on August 25-27. Entry List For Rounds 7 & 8 of the Formula Dodge National Championship Presented by RACER at Putnam Park Raceway
