Formula Barber Dodge: Jonatan Jorge wins and regains the lead for the Southern Championship. Brazilian driver Jonatan Jorge (PITBULL Energy Drink/Montoya Racing/Edgewater/TL Racing) recaptured the lead of the Formula Barber Dodge Southern Conference, this past Sunday, in Sebring, FL. The set up of the track was modified from its standard version, being both shorter and more selective.
Racing in Group II, Jorge scored the pole and was impeccable during the race, allowing no chances to Matt Franc, who at the time led the Championship's point standings.
On Saturday, both Jorge and Franc, along with Can Artam, engaged in a thrilling race as they traded positions intermittently during the race. Jorge finished in 1st, with Artam in 2nd and Franc in 3rd. On Sunday, Jorge - again on the pole - did not forcefully block Franc's overtaking during the 3rd lap, but instead managed his distance and took back the lead at five laps from the end, comfortably finishing the race in first place.
"This was an excellent week. The support received from PITBULL Energy Drink came at the right time. I was able to practice more than ever, which allowed me to become even more acquainted with the car. The track was very suitable to my style and today (Sunday) I was so confident in my performance that I avoided getting into a harsh confrontation with Matt Franc. I tried to drive so to induce Matt to make a mistake, but he is very experienced. I chose to pass him five laps to the end because I felt I was faster than him in the low-speed portion of the circuit. Being on the lead of the championship again is a great feeling, and it is tough to put into words how happy I am," said Jorge.
Besides the two race wins, Jonatan Jorge also set a new track record for the legendary Sebring circuit, with a lap time of 1:15'714" seconds.
The final round of the Championship will take place in Daytona, in April.
