NEW YORK, N.Y. - From any perspective other than John Hall's, the most exciting -- wait, let us rephrase that ... interesting -- thing to happen to him at the Road America Barber Dodge weekend is that he had to charm a Continental Airlines wage earner into hunting down his lost gear bag ("What? It's in Kankakee?") and then hand-deliver it to the track..

Yes, that's right; Hall is so rookie-fresh that he didnit know that you never check your helmet and suit. Carry-on, John. Learn about it...

In Hall's first look at one of America's finest race tracks, he qualified 21st and in the race was as "high" as 18th before he cooked his brakes. Which meant he inadvertently punted Sara Senske in Turn 5 (she continued onward, fine and dandy), followed by several more escape road adventures.

Hall finished 22nd. Nothing to write home to Mom about...

... By the way, the Continental gal (Brenda Roehrig) and her family were treated to Barber Dodge weekend passes and a full paddock tour (yes, they got pictures with Mr. Newman and other famous faces) as just reward for her extraordinary efforts in locating and delivering Hall's MIA gear.

And Brenda was so thrilled with her first racing experience that she was able to swing a first-class upgrade for Hall's trip back to Houston.

The upshot being that, if nothing else, let's give credit to John for unearthing another CART fan.
