Lime Rock, Connecticut -- Current Skip Barber National Series points leader Joel Miller completed a winning sweep this last weekend for rounds 9 and 10 at Lime Rock Park. Miller was at the top of the charts during practice, qualified on the pole for both races, and finished first in both features during the double header weekend.
Coming into the weekend, Miller wanted to continue with more consistent finishes as he has done all year.
After this weekend his tally stands at 10 starts, 4 wins, and 7 podiums.
"This weekend has been awesome. Winning both races today will be a huge blessing towards the championship," said Miller during the podium ceremony.
Race 1 was drama free for Miller as he led through the first turn from his 1st place starting position. He held the lead for the entire race distance, but was intensely challenged by other drivers in the first few laps. After a red flag incident on lap 5 the race was back underway, and Miller began the task of rebuilding his lead. The race turned into a time certain closure which resulted in Miller winning by 4.2 seconds. "My goal was to make the other drivers fight for position so I could get away. It worked perfectly, and I won the race," commented Miller after race 1.
The second race of the weekend took place Saturday afternoon following the NASCAR Busch series eastern region 200 mile event. "I knew the track conditions were going to be far different than the previous race, but my plan was the same as race one," said Miller. This time the race went green to checker without any caution laps, and Miller maintained the lead during most of the race. On the final lap Miller was in a heated battle with fellow driver Kyle Lawrence. After going hard on the brakes and holding the position on the outside, Miller won race two by a nose. This completed Miller's winning sweep of the weekend, and gives him a 26 point lead over second in the championship.
The next round of the Skip Barber National Series will be in conjunction with Grand Am at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. Miller would like to thank Skip Barber, Stars of Karting, the affiliates of the Team USA Scholarship, Pitfit Training, Zoombang Products, Dream Cars Auto, IC Homes, and Tony Kart for all their help during this race season
