Rondet had passed Boss down the backstraight moments earlier and looked set to score his second consecutive win, but he ran a little wide in the last corner alllowing Boss to duck underneath and outdrag Rondet to the finish line. Rino Mastronardi lost his championship points lead to Derek Hill, who finished third, when Mastronardi ran into the side of Boss and bent his front suspension when he tried for the lead on lap nine.
