Twenty-nine drivers with over 450 combined event wins and more than 60 championship titles will gather at Grattan Raceway in Michigan for round one of the 2000 Formula Dodge National Championship Presented by RACER. Representing the new elite in motorsports, these karting champions and young racers gained entry into what may be top to bottom the most competitive field in North American racing by virtue of their racing record. In short, it takes a winner to make a winner.

In the long term, the health and prosperity of American open-wheel racing will stand to be the winner of this series. As with all Skip Barber Racing programs, driver development is the focus of the racing. Pitting these young lions against one another, like water finding its level, ensures that only the best will emerge as champion. Racing in identically prepared Formula Dodge R/T 2000, complete with wings, slicks and a five-speed sequential gearbox, there are no facades to hide behind, no excuses to be sought. It is pure competition, racer against racer in thirteen round battle.

“Raising the level of competition was the goal we set in order to better prepare aspiring drivers for the next step,” said Skip Barber. “There is no question that racing with a high caliber of competition improves driver development.”

The prize for the top three is an automatic entry into the Barber Dodge Pro Series “Big Scholarship” runoff where again competition will determine who will win a fully funded ride in North America’s premier professional, open-wheel racing development series. There are no handouts, only hand ups.
