RACER Magazine Will Be Presenting Sponsor For Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship

LAKEVILLE, Conn. - RACER magazine will be the Presenting Sponsor for the inaugural Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship.

The Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship Presented by RACER will bring the top up-and-coming amateur open-wheel drivers in the country to Lime Rock Park on Oct. 15-16. The weekend will serve as the culmination of the Skip Barber Formula Dodge Championships, the largest open-wheel amateur championship in North America. Drivers from all four Formula Dodge regional championships (Eastern, Southern, Midwestern and Western) will participate in a one-race shootout to determine the first national champion.

NASCAR Winston Cup competitor Jerry Nadeau, who will drive for Hendrick Motorsports in 2000, CART FedEx Championship Series star Bryan Herta, and PPG-Dayton Indy Lights race winners Tony Renna and Geoff Boss are among the drivers who have competed in the Skip Barber Formula Dodge Championships.

"The match with RACER is ideal," Skip Barber said. "The idea behind staging a national championship was to give our drivers a chance to showcase their talent and help them advance their careers.

"For the past seven years, RACER has raised the standard for motorsports coverage in this country. RACER brings a tremendous amount of credibility and excitement to this event and that, in turn, will help us gain more exposure for our drivers."

The partnership agreement between RACER and the Skip Barber Formula Dodge Championships includes branding identification, Internet links and cross-promotion, advertising and event coverage.

Earlier this year RACER was hailed as one of the best magazines in America by a panel of publishing industry experts in a feature in MEDIA INDUSTRY NEWS magazine along with ESPN the Magazine, The New Yorker, The Economist, Teen People and Elle Decor. RACER's parent company Racer Communications, Inc. also publishes Champ Car magazine (focusing on the CART FedEx championship) and operates racer.com a leading motorsports news and commentary web site. The field for the Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship Presented by RACER will consist of 24 drivers. The top competitors from each of the four regional championships will receive automatic invitations.

The weekend schedule includes one practice, two qualifying sessions and a 30-minute race on Lime Rock's historic 1.53-mile road course.

The Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship Presented by RACER adds another component to the Skip Barber Scholarship Ladder.

Skip Barber annually awards approximately $1 million in scholarships to help young drivers progress from Karting to the CART FedEx Championship Series. The winner of the Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship will receive a $15,000 Career Enhancement Award.

The Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship Presented by RACER will take place at the Dodge Dealers NASCAR 200 Presented by Burnham Boilers, the season finale and one of the biggest events of the year for the NASCAR Busch North Series.
