Formula Dodge National Series: Jonatan Jorge finishes 5th in Indianapolis. In a week full of rain and crash turmoil, Brazilian driver Jonatan Jorge (Pitbull Energy Drink / Montoya Racing) obtained two 5th place finishes during the 7th and 8th rounds of the Formula Dodge National Series held this past weekend at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
Many accidents took place during practices and qualifying, which forced the Series' officials to nearly cancel the races. To make matters worse, the track is commonly used by the NHRA series, which applies an excessive amount of tire rubber and oil on certain portions of the track - the very points where most of the accidents occurred when rain arrived.
For the first race (7th Round), Jorge started at the 9th spot in the grid, unable to set up his car for qualifying after a contact in the rainy practice earlier in the day, and finished the race in 5th. In the 8th Round, and starting in the 8th spot in the gird as a result of the second qualifying session, Jorge was then able to set-up the car, therefore having a more competitive vehicle. Jorge then worked his way up the pack, at one point battling for second place, before dropping back to 5th by the checkered flag.
"I was only able to set up the car for the second race. I understand that the officials had to cancel the practices and put all the events in one day. The problem is that I was under a huge disadvantage because I didn't get a chance to practice, unlike the other guys," said Jorge.
"With the little time I had to set up my car, I was still able to make it competitive, but when I was in third [place] and working my way up to the lead, the car began to bog down at all left-hand turns. It was pretty disappointing." "I don't like to use this expression, but this week luck wasn't at my side," said the driver.
The next round will be held in Mont Tremblant, Canada, in August. Meanwhile, Jorge is scheduled to be participating in additional Formula-car events in other countries.
