Drivers who have used the Barber Pro Series as a steppingstone into the world of top level auto racing include: 1999 Indianapolis 500 winner and current CART driver Kenny Brack; 1999 CART PPG Cup Champion and 2000 Indy 500 winner Juan Montoya; seven of the drivers in the current CART Dayton Indy Lights Series field.

All drivers compete in identically prepared single-seat, open-wheel race cars which are owned, maintained and transported by the Barber Dodge Pro Series.

In 1998, world famous racecar manufacturer Reynard Motorsport, was called upon to design an all new carbon-fiber monocoque chassis exclusively for the series. That chassis is mated to an all aluminum 3.5 liter V6 Dodge engine tuned to deliver 265 peak horsepower driven through a six-speed sequential Hewland gearbox. The Reynard Dodge 98E is shod with Michelin Pilot SX racing slicks, marking the French tire giant's competitive North American open-wheel debut.

Races are 40 minutes in duration with points allocated to the top-15 finishers (20 to the winner, then 16-14-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1). A driver's ten best results count toward the championship total. An additional point is awarded to the fastest qualifier.

All 12 rounds of the 2000 Barber Dodge Pro Series will again be televised on espn2 as well as ESPN International.

Fight to the Finish

(LAKEVILLE, Conn.) Oct. 4, 2000 - One of the most competitive race series in North America is living up to its reputation. The Barber Dodge Pro Series will crown its 15th champion this Sunday, Oct. 8 in the Racing For Kids Grand Prix featuring the Barber Dodge Pro Series at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. The fight will be between American Jon Fogarty and Brazilian Nilton Rossoni for the title as well as the coveted $300,000 Career Enhancement Award.

Rossoni, the early series leader, regained the top spot following a third-place finish at Road Atlanta in round 11. That coupled with Fogarty finishing 15th after a disastrous weekend enabled Rossoni to grab the advantage. Fogarty had led the championship since early in the summer.

The cards are stacked in Rossoni's favor this weekend yet the competitiveness of the series assures no guarantees. The possible title scenarios this weekend are as follows. For Fogarty to win the championship he must:

* Win race plus pole with Rossoni finishing eighth or lower * Win race with Rossoni finishing 10th or lower not from pole * Finish second from pole with Rossoni finishing 12th or lower * Finish second without pole with Rossoni 13th or lower * In any event, Rossoni will clinch if he finishes seventh or higher

This is the second visit to the Homestead track this season for the Barber Dodge Pro Series. In March, the Pro Series ran in conjunction with the CART FedEx Series on the oval circuit. On this go around, Barber Dodge drivers will pilot the infield road course that will utilize the third and fourth turns of the oval as the last two turns of the circuit. Rossoni was the victor of the event in March wherein he dropped back to ninth-place after suffering an early contact with another car. That set the stage for a storming drive through the field to pass Fogarty in the waning moments and take his second successive victory.
