Peter Boss worked the draft to perfection to take the provisional pole for Saturday's second round of the Barber Dodge Pro Series. Boss captured the pole with a lap of 0:43.000 for an average speed of 118.214 mph.

The pole had changed hands six times within the space of 10 minutes, before Boss finally secured it.

"I think it's going to be tough to beat," Boss, of Naragansett, R.I., said afterwards. "I got a good draft all the way through to turn-3. Everything worked perfectly."

Sunny but breezy conditions played a factor according to Boss who believed that the changing winds constantly forced him and the other drivers to change their lines through the oval portion of the track.

Andy Lally of Northport, N.Y. recorded the second quickest time, 0.069 sec. behind Boss. Lally held the pole at one time, but just as his name registered on the timing and scoring computers, Boss' name superceded his.

Third quick was Jon Fogarty of Portola Valley, Ca. who also held pole for a short while, actually improving on his pole time the following lap.
