(Belding, Michigan) June 30, 2001 -- "Let's get busy" was the theme at Grattan Racway in qualifying for Round 6 of the Formula Dodge National Championship as 21 of 23 drivers stormed out of pit lane and set their best times remarkably early, all on or before lap 6. Julio Campos gained his second pole of the weekend for tomorrow's race. The Brazilian didn't wait long before setting a blistering pole time of 1:24.530 sec on lap 3. Starting alongside him outside on row 1 will be Canadian Dan Di Leo, the winner of Round 4 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. A.J. Allmendinger, the series points leader, will start from P3.

The session started off 'uber' fast. The third lap turned out to be quickest for most of the drivers as 10 of 23 tripped their best time on lap 3. The heat, and its capacity to fatigue engines, drivers and tires, seemed to be a factor as it had during the previous day's session.

After the 18 minute session Campos talked about warming up to the track.

"I really felt the car perform well and am happy to start on pole," said Campos [through the use of an interpreter]. "As I am getting more familiar with the elevation changes and cambers, I believe I am more comfortable on the course and making fewer mistakes."

Di Leo planned all along to set his best time early.

"My intention was to go out there and really bear down, get in the quick laps before the heat was a factor and any debris got on the track."

For Allmendinger, who continues to build impressive statistics, starting from P3 is all part of a plan.

"The first few laps I got in some really good laps," said Allmendinger. "I'm really pleased with my consistency. I want to be consistent all the way to the Championship."
