The Formula Dodge Midwestern Regional Championship opens this weekend at Grattan Raceway in Grattan, Mich., along with rounds 1 and 2 of the 2000 Formula Dodge National Championship Presented by RACER. Forty-three drivers will be taking part in the opening round which will feature qualifying sessions for the first time as did the Eastern region opener a few weeks ago in Virginia. The qualifying sessions will take place on Saturday morning to determine the grids for Race 1 in each group. The race order will determine the grid for Race 2 in each group on Sunday.

With defending champion Bryan Sellers running in the Formula Dodge National Championship this year, a few of the wile veterans will be up against many new faces. Among those returning from the 1999 series are tenth-placed Revere Griest, 13th-placed Clifford Sigmann, 16th-placed Charlie Hilmer, 17th-placed Martin Zimmerman and 19th-placed Whitney Bellows.

The Grattan track is celebrated for its scenic setting and spectacular up-and-down corner. This challenging 1.9-mile, 14-turn is famous for it’s ability to get racecars momentarily airborne over the brow before turn five.
