Skip Barber trained Patrick Long took two podiums in Formula Ford competition at the Brands Hatch circuit in England. Long, the former Formula Dodge standout, won Round 7 and earned second place honors in Round 8 by taming the 2.622 mile circuit in his USA Van Diemen RF01. The Californian had to overcome early showers and dicey track conditions to notch his victory in the first of two races on Sunday. The strong weekend moves him to second place overall in the Formula Ford Championship. Long took 61 of a possible 64 points and now stands 15 points behind the series leader.
"I've got momentum on my side now and I'm looking forward to Donnington Park, a circuit that I really enjoy." said Long.
Dorsey Schroeder and teammates took second place in the SRP class in the Grand-Am Road America 500. Schroeder was joined by Skip Barber coaches Jim Pace and Barry Waddell who took fifth place overall in the same class, five laps down, driving their No. 63 SRP Downing Atlanta Inc Hans-Head and Neck Support Kudzu/Mazda.
In the Pepsi 400 at Daytona Beach, Florida, Ward Burton registered a best fourth place result among Skip Barber trained racers. Burton was followed home by 2000 Winston Cup Champion Bobby Labonte (5th), former Formula Dodge racer Jerry Nadeau (6th) and Jeff Burton (8th).... In Busch Grand National action, Skip Barber trained Boris Said took fourth place in the 82-lap GNC Live Well 200 at Watkins Glen, New York... In Craftsman Trucks, Skip Barber trained Dennis Setzer was a third place finisher in the O'Reilly Auto Parts 250.
Finally, Skip Barber trained Steve Rehkemper earned his first podium in the Pro Spec Racer series with a second place result in Saturday's Round 5 of the Sports Car Club of America Pro Spec Racer series at Chicago Motor Speedway. Rehkemper, who held the point several times on the oval, led as late as lap 48 in the 50-lap race.
