Johns, to Secure 2008 Formula Vee National Title, at Zwartkops?
With a virtually unassailable lead, Dennis Johns (No2 Geyser Attorneys Rhema 2) could well wrap up his second National Formula Vee Title, in the penultimate round of the 2008 Pro Tour South African National Formula Vee Championship, to be run at Zwartkops Raceway, Pretoria West, on the 11th October 2008. The event also includes races, for the Execuline Shelby Can Am Sports Cars, Investec Formula Ford Zetec Single Seaters, the exotic Altech Porsche Unlimited Challenge, the Altech Porsche 924 Challenge, Altech Kawasaki ZX10 Masters Cup Motorcycles, the Goldwagen Volkswagen Challenge and Super Hatch, creating a good blend of top class, Sports Car, Single Seater, Exotic Car, Saloon Car and Motor Cycle racing, to cater for all tastes.
Still in with a mathematical chance, of snatching the Championship from under Johns nose, is another of the ex Champions in the Formula Vee race, Peter Hills (No3 Prolantic MLS Brokers Rhema 2), while reigning Champion Alan Holm, could be in the field as well but driving his old Rhema 1, as opposed to his regular No1 Lasersprint Rhema 2. The toughest opposition Johns could face, at Zwartkops, may however come, from what a few short weeks ago, would have been considered an unlikely source. That all changed at Phakisa, when seventeen year old development driver Courtney Steenveld (No8 Indy Oil NLDTF Rhema 2) stepped up to the plate and claimed his first National Formula Vee victory, after a race long tussle, with Johns and fellow development driver Zaahir Essa (No71 NLDTF Rhema 1). This makes both development drivers, contenders for victory at Zwartlops, along with Johns, Hills and Holm.
Chasing hard and eager to unseat those ahead of them, will be Trevor Bland (No6 Office Direct Rhema 2) and Symm Grobler (No 4 Auto Mecca Rhema 2), with Jannie Geyser Jnr (No63 Geyser Attorneys Rhema 2), Jannie Geyser Snr (No64 Geyser Attorneys Vision), Johan Gouws (No27 Computer Assemblies Mantis), Ben Pienaar (No101 BJ Pro Welding Rhema2) and Nico Blignaut (No23 Gilus IT SAP Rhema 2), battling it out for the other points scoring positions. Others in the field, all with their own individual aspirations, should include, Doug MacDonald (No18 Fantastic Racing Rhema 1), Alan Eustice (No77 Execuline Rhema 2), Andre Van Der Merwe (No51 Atlas Dry Cleaners Lantis), Stan Alford (No84 Rhema 1), Hugo Walendorf (No45 BJ Pro Welding Lantis), Nicholas Tennant (No34 Tennant Benefit Consultants Tasman), Andrei Overbeek (No78 Omega), Chandre Kruger (No41 Gilus IT SAP Sting) and James Evans (No30 Gilus IT SAP Tasman).
All of them, should produce good close racing all the way down the field, making it an event not to be missed, See You at Zwartkops.
