Barcelona, 29th September 2001 - The show is served for tomorrow's races at 11h40 and 13h40 (local time) where the young South African driver Tomas Scheckter will start in pole position. Rafael Sarandeses (Adrian Campos Motorsport), will start from the third position in the two races. In the middle of position 1 and 3 we will find Manuel Giao, from Fama Motorsport.
If Montagny wants to win tomorrow, he will have to go over Rafael Sarandeses and Manuel Giao. The Epsilon by Graff driver, current leader in the Open Telefonica 2001 Series, suffered a loss of power in the engine of his Single Seater. Apparently solved for the Second Official Session, after the engineers commanded by Langford did check it out.
There were no changes for the first three positions in both Qualifying Sessions, but the gap between Giao and Scheckter in the Second one was almost of one second. The RSA driver seemed to have it clear: "I need that result for me an for my Team. The track was drying out every lap during the Second Session, but we all kept the wet tyres on. I was very lucky that I found nobody when I was on my last flying lap. We have made half of our job in this meeting and I hope we will complete the rest tomorrow."
Rafael Sarandeses confirmed the good performance of the Campos Team, but complained about the traffic: "I'm happy with the result of the First Session but I have to say that I found a lot guys during the two last laps of the Second Session" The Spaniard was actually leading most of the 2nd Session.
The Portuguese Manuel Giao (Fama Motorsport) showed very confident in the Spanish Track as he managed to secured two second positions: " It's been all right for us in both Sessions. Our dry set up in the 1st session was really good. It is a pity because when I was on my best moment I had a problem with one of the fuel pumps. Anyway, tomorrow I hope that I won't fail on the start" The Fama Team completed a nice job as they saw his second driver, Paulo Alho coming up till the fifth position in the Second Session..
After completing the whole 2000 Season with Epsilon, Jean Christophe Ravier reenters the Open Telefonica 2001, replacing De Galzain. He finished 6th in the Second Qualifying Session. Geoffrey Dellus was also within the top 10 positions. Andrea Belicchi, third in the Series, was very unhappy with the Set Up of his Car, qualifying 7th and 11th respectively.
