22nd March.- International drivers are to dominate the Open Telefonica 2001, after three season "coloured in Spanish" thanks to series wins of Marc Gene, Fernando Alonso and Antonio Garcia.
Today, in the first testing day at Valencia, most favourites for the 2001 title have finished on top positions, the Portuguese Manuel Giao (Scuderia Fama) being the fastest on the track. Behind the Open Nissan 1999 runner-up, Italian Andrea Belicchi (Door's Engineering) and South African Tomas Scheckter (Vergani Racing).
Fourth today and best Spaniard, Ángel Burgueño (Repsol Meycom). Best seres rookie Italian Filippo Zadotti (Door¹s Engineering, fifth), ahead of Open 2001 "heavyweights", such as Frenchman Franck Montagny or Adrian Campos Motorsport no. 1 driver, Spaniard Rafael Sarandeses (8th).
All 21 entered drivers for the Open Telefonica Nissan 2001 are present at Valencia.
Tomorrow, same testing schedule as today's: morning session from 10.15 to 13.15 hours, and afternoon session from 15.00 to 17.30. This will be the last testing prior to the first event of the series at Jarama the 1st of April.
