Circuit de Catalunya, 16 de mayo de 2001.- The Spaniard Ángel Burgueño (Repsol YPF-Meycom) set the fastest lap of the 21 drivers testing today in the second and final journey of Collective Test in Barcelona. The seventh meeting will take place here the next 29th and 30th of September and the 24 drivers of the official entry-list are to race in the Grand Prix track for the very first time since the Series started in 1998.

The leader, Frenchman Franck Montagny (Epsilon by Graff) did not concentrate in the search of times, but to test in race set-up and some other suspension work, although he was on new tyres at the end of the morning session, when it was too hot: "The heat has been extreme here in Barcelona. We have got 44 centigrades on track!!! Everything has been O.K. so far".

The former Jaguar Racing test driver lapped the second fastest time at the very begining and was really impressed about the car¹s performance in the Grand Prix Circuit. ³The Coloni/Nissan CN1/C is so fast in the three corners at the back side of the Circuit, that really impressed me a lot.² Scheckter was the quickest driver yesterday (1.36.135) but today, during the afternoon session, he was only able to improve this time by 3 centesimes or so, in new tyres.

Burgueño was really fast early in the morning setting 1.35.558, and together with Scheckter, able to beat the race times of Justin Wilson (Coca-Coloa Nordic Racing) during the last F-3000 event in Barcelona, only a few weeks ago (1.36.230)

Compared with yesterday¹session,, where only the southafrican was driving within 1.36, more than 15 drivers were on this same minute, looking fine and progressing with confidence. Alho (Scudería Fama) impressed with his tenth position, as he didn¹t knew the this complicated track at all.

Like Frenchman Geoffrey Dellus (Epsilon by Graff), who completed the major number of laps :142 .Geoffrey, (22), didn¹t know the track, as many other drivers, like the single female driver in the series, Milka Duno (Vergani Racing) or the italian Filippo Zadotti (SITEC Motorsport). Andrea Bellichi, third fastest driver yesterday, was not on duty during today¹s session.

The next meeting from the FIA SERIES Open Telefónica 2001 will take place in the Circuito de la Comunidad Valenciana Ricardo Tormo, the next 10 of june.
