TROIS-RIVIERES, Que., Can. (July 28, 2000)– Marc-Antoine Camirand, of Trois-Rivieres, Que., Can., captured the provisional pole here at his home track for the U.S. F2000 National Championship Presented by Speedvision Le Grand Prix Player’s de Trois-Rivieres at Trois-Rivieres. Aaron Justus, of Crestline, Calif. and Tom Dyer, in an ACC car, of San Rafael, Calif., round out the top-three. Driving the No. 96 Key Motorsport Van Diemen Ford, Camirand grabbed the provisional pole on slick track in hot conditions. Camirand, who is running both U.S. F2000 and CART Toyota Atlantic this weekend, ran a quick lap of 1:06.698 (81.501 mph) midway through the session. Camirand, who has the lap record here at Trois- Rivieres, will look to retain his pole position tomorrow morning during final qualifying. “The car was really loose at the start of the session, ” said Camirand. “During the black flag we changed the wings and bars and the car was a lot better. I was able to get some clean laps, but late in the session I ran into traffic. I’m hoping to keep the pole tomorrow, as it’s pretty important here.” Justus, driving the No. 32 Forsythe/Indeck Racing/Torco Van Diemen Ford, battled traffic throughout the session to post the second fastest time, 1:06.966 (81.175 mph). Justus, the current points leader, will look to grab his fourth pole of the season during final qualifying tomorrow. “The track was real slick out there,” said Justus. “A bunch of times I was real sideways. I’m happy with the time I posted given the conditions. I think we definitely have a shot at the pole tomorrow, but Marc (Camirand) is the man to beat here.” Driving the No. 2 CycleShack/Bell Helmets/Paladin Carbir Ford, Dyer posted the third quickest time in the first qualifying session. Driving an ACC car, Dyer impressed, posting a quick lap of 1:07.241 (80.843 mph), a full second quicker than the next ACC competitor. “We’re extremely pleased thus far” said Dyer. “This being my first-ever street course race I was a little apprehensive before I went out. Once I got in the car that vanished and I just went for it. I think this proves that we belong up-front, and shows the car is still developing.” Rounding out the top-five is Ian Lacy, of North Las Vegas, Nev. and rookie James Hanson, of Leeds, England.
