FAIRFIELD, N.J. (May 12, 2000)—Taylor Race Engineering Inc., of Plano, Texas, has announced a $1,000 challenge for the U.S. F2000 National Championship Budweiser Night Before the 500 race at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The challenge is open to all U.S. F2000 drivers qualifying for Round 4 of the U.S. F2000 race at IRP on May 27, 2000. The first driver to break the qualifying lap record at IRP will receive $1,000 cash from Taylor Race Engineering Inc. The current qualifying lap record of 116.190 mph (0.21.254 seconds) is held by the President of Taylor Race Engineering Inc., Craig Taylor. Taylor set the qualifying lap record in 1992, driving a Swift DB6 with an engine built by Charlie Williams. "This is a cash award," said Craig Taylor, noting that unlike most company-sponsored challenges, it is not restricted to product purchases or contingent of the winner being a customer. "We are doing this because we really believe in the concept of Formula 2000, and in Formula Motorsports untiring efforts to make the series a succes. Besides posting the award is just fun."
