Steve Welk has another Solid Weekend at the Mid Ohio Road Race Classic

Lexington, OH. - Sophomore Cooper Tires Championship Series driver Steve Welk had a good weekend at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course taking home a pair of top tens. With a sixth and seventh place finish Welk was able to hang on to his sixth position in the points chase heading into the season's final race at Road America.

The Aiken Racing driver posted a good result in the Saturday morning qualifying session tripping the clocks seventh quick. Race one rolled off Saturday afternoon under clear skies. Welk got a great start moving ahead one position into sixth. The 21-year old would be able to maintain the sixth position until just before half way. Dropping back to seventh Welk would stay in striking distance with the top five but ultimately would settle for seventh as the checkered flag fell.

Steve and his Aiken Racing team set about trying to improve the car for the second final of the weekend. Running fifth fastest in Sunday mornings warm, Welk and his team thought that they had a good shot in the race. During the race Welk's #57 machine took a little too long to come in and a sixth place finish was the result.

"I thought that we had a pretty good weekend. Marshal Aiken and I worked really hard to get the car right for this place. In the end, we still missed on it a little. This Aiken Racing team really worked hard all weekend and I can't thank them enough. I am really confident that we will be at the front end of the grid at my home track of Road America when the Cooper Tires Series goes there in two weeks."
